Narrative
Note: Second- and Third-generation Thompson family
"Ernie" and his wife Rose had a very large family that included not just their own thirteeen children but a step-son and two girls they fostered. Of all those children, two were infant or child deaths, and about half of the remaining children had somewhat fractured marital lives and families, while the other half remained married to their first spouses until their deaths. A handful of the adult children had no children or only one, and at least one of those lines appears to have ended a few generations later.
In birth order, with what information I have:
- Lauretta married Earl Joseph Kelly, a WWI veteran ten years her senior. According to oral family history, their daughter, Joan, was actually born to Lauretta's younger sister Sylvia (an unwed teenaged mother); Joan discovered this fact when Joan went to enlist in the military and started getting her birth documentation. Lauretta remained married to Earl until her death in 1963, at age fifty-six.
- Glenn married Ada Rosenow (niece to his sister Marie's husband Herbert) and had two children, Brian and Marcia. Family memory suggests that Glenn and Add may also have fostered or adopted a boy and a girl some years prior, also named Brian and Marcia, but I haven't confirmed this as of yet. Glenn and Ada were married until her death in 1965, and he remarried to Alice, who'd been close to the family and was very important to his children, until her death in 1972. Glenn has at least two grandchildren and at least one great-grandchild.
- Marie married Herbert Stargard in 1930, and had three children (Robert, Carolyn, and Richard) and several grandchildren prior to Herbert's death in 1991.
- Florence married Oliver "Ollie" Gomer sometime prior to 1931, and remained married until his death in 1984. They had five children.
- Donald appears to have been married and divorced at least twice, and possibly more, living at least some of the time in Iowa and passing away sometime around 1983. He does not appear to have stayed close to those family members still living today, so their memories of his life and family are a little fuzzy, but it is believed he had at least two children.
- Helen, according to family memories, married a man named Cy Johnson (or similar) and remained living with him in Illinois until his death, at which point she returned to Wisconsin until her death in 1990. She did not have any children.
- Sylvia (as noted above) had a daughter (Joan) from a teenaged pregnancy; she would later marry Robert "Bob" Frazier. The information from my searches indicates they had a daughter Carol (or possibly Karol), but family recollection tells that Carol was actually Joan's daughter (making her Sylvia's biological granddaughter) from her own teenaged pregnancy. Sylvia and Bob are presumed to have divorced, and she may likely have remarried, as her gravestone gives her the surname Voltz. No information has yet been found on her marital history after Bob. Joan also appears to have had multiple marriages, and also may have had several children (who would be adopted grandchildren of Lauretta's and biological grandchildren of Sylvia's). Carol's marital and famil history is not known to me at this point, but any children she may have had would be Sylvia's grandchildren by adoption, and great-grandchildren biologically.
- Vernard served in the Army during WWII, and was killed in France in a non-combat-related accident at the age of twenty-four. He had never married and had no children.
- Warren married Adeline Joy Hagen and relocated to Washington State. They appear to have had only one daughter, Laury Aleta, and remained married until Warren's death in 1983. Laury married Timothy Yeutsy, and they had one son (Destin) who died just a few months before his twentieth birthday. Laury would remarry twice more, before passing away at the age of fifty-five, leaving only her third husband and her mother Joy as survivors. This appears to have ended Warren's line.
- Lorraine married Dale Ciskie, and they remained married until his death in 1977. I've heard family mention of children of theirs, but I have no information on their family at this point.
- Norman, according to what information I have, married Mary May Keeney, relocated to Washington State (likely near his brother Warren), and died in 1976 at the age of forty-eight. Initial searches indicate that he and Mary had a large family (between six and nine children), though I have little information on his family at this point.
