Narrative

The article "Cayot-Huebner" in the Wells County, Indiana Family History 1837-1992, p287, gives Roy's birth date as 10th June 1902, and his date of death as 1957. The birth dates differ only slightly (by a year and ten days) from that found on his marriage record, but the year must be a transcription error from the date of death on his headstone (1975), as eighteen years is an awfully large discrepancy otherwise.

As for his date of birth, his marriage record to Lila Reynolds in 1922 gives his date of birth as 20 Jun 1900. His parents didn't marry until November 1900, so I tend to think he lied about his age when he married Lila so that he would not appear to be a teenager marrying a woman in her late twenties, though it may be a simple record-keeping or transcription error. His US Social Security Death Index record gives his birthdate as 20 Jun 1903.

Narrative

The Roy Cayot family came to the Zanesville area in 1936. They lived one and a half miles south of Zanesville on Old Rd. 303. Roy married Martha Huebner, daughter of Hanna Zilkie [sic] and William Huebner. Roy's parents were Lewis [sic] Cayot and Beatrice Middleton.

Roy (deceased) and Martha had twelve children; Harold and Edith Nix have six children; Thomas, Dennis, Cheryl, Hanell, Patricia and Marcia.

Eugene John and Glenna Smuts have five children; Ellen, Karen, Leslie, Bradley and Carol. (See Jacob Smuts article.)

Cathleen Louise (twin) and Donald Loyd [sic] have eight children; Donna, Diana, David, Dana, Donald, Dean, Darlene, Danny (deceased) and three grandchildren.

Ilene Mary (twin) and Dean Kern have four children; Judy, Connie, Barbara, Lisa, and six grandchildren.

Marcella (twin) and Jack Shaw have ten children; Vickie, Peggy, Sandy, Susan, Kelly, Tami, Robin, Shad, Shane, Russell (deceased), and three grandchildren.

Mildred (twin) and and Edward Springer have four boys; Hal, Arlan, Lee and Scott.

Manford and Marion have four children; Tony, Ronald, Carla, Craig and one grandchild.

After the children were raised Roy and Martha built a new home one mile south on old Rd. 303. They called the place Buttermilk Hill. This family of three generations has 99 members, of which three are deceased.

[Editing note: a few names were misspelled along phonetic lines, notably Zielke, Louis, and Lloyd. One minor anecdote to add is that at the time of publication (1976), I was one of the three grandchildren mentioned for Marcella Cayot and husband "Jack" Shaw.]
