Narrative
I have Marie Louise Perriguey noted as buried in Saint Louis Besancon Catholic Cemetery in New Haven, Indiana, but FindaGrave.com does not have a listing for her; either I made a mistaken assumption, or perhaps I found her included in another interment list for the cemetery. Her (first?) husband, Joseph Cayot, is buried in the "Old" Saint Louis Besancon Cemetery.
I have noted, as well, that there appears to be an "unknown" Perriguey, b. 1818, d. 3 Mar 1896, buried in the Old Saint Louis Besancon Cemetery, which may well be one of the parents of Marie Louise.
ADDENDUM: The obituary for her son Louis Joseph Cayot names two step-sisters, suggesting that his mother had indeed remarried after the death of her first husband, Joseph Cayot. Joseph died when Marie was just twenty-seven, and when son Louis Joseph was only five years old, so it's likely he was raised with these step-sisters. It's further possible that they may well have been half-sisters, depending upon when Marie remarried.
SECOND ADDENDUM: Her second husband was Alexis Gerardot, b. 10 Mar 1832 in Stark Cty, Ohio, d. 15 Jul 1927 in Allen Cty, Indiana; the two of them are noted as buried in the Old Saint Louis Besancon Cemetery in New Haven, Allen Cty, Indiana. Her listing on the FindaGrave.com website also indicates that she had a daughter with Alexis (Lucy) who died in 1934 of diptheria. It would appear, then that Louis Joseph did have at least one half-sibling, but she died decades before him and so was not listed among the survivors in his obituary.
The marriage record for Marie and Alexis indicates they married on 24 Apr 1890 in Allen Cty, Indiana, a bit more than two years after the death of her first husband Joseph. Her listing on the FindaGrave.com website contains supplemental information naming her parents Ferd Perriguey and Genereuse Grosjean, though I have not yet explored that further to determine more.
I will note the difficulty that was apparently common in Indiana in the late 19th century, amongst those keeping records, in dealing with the sudden influx of French names, as phonetic spellings of great variety exist in each index I have searched.
THIRD ADDENDUM: I have located the household for Marie's family in the 1860 and 1870 US Census, in Jefferson Twp, Allen Cty, Indiana. Her father, Ferdinand, was significantly older than her mother Genevieve, and likely died before the 1880 US Census. That would suggest that the 1896 interment, noted above, is possibly Genevieve. There was also a younger sister noted in the 1860 US Census, named only "Jane." She does not appear in the 1870 US Census for the household, and presumably had died very young. I've not located any further records for Jane at this point.
There also appears to have been another marriage for Marie Perriguey - in between being widowed from Joseph Cayot in 1882 and marrying Alexis Gerardot in 1890, she married Charles Getz in Allen Cty, Indiana in 1885. I don't know for certain whether she was widowed form Charles or whether they divorced prior to her marriage to Alexis Gerardot. It is also possible that this marriage record refers to a different Marie Perriguey, but it seems unlikely at first inspection. Tracing the children from all of these unions and comparing to census records may help straighten that out - Marie Perriguey is named as the mother of the bride for records with both Alexis and Charles.
FOURTH ADDENDUM: The Marie Perriguey who married Charles Getz is a different woman entirely - a somewhat unexpected find, given their proximity in location (all within Allen Cty, Indiana). Charles' wife Marie (or Mary) was several years younger than my ancestor Marie (b. 1862, instead of 1857), and was alive for decades longer. The marriage records naming her mother of the bride include those with the bride born years after the death of my ancestor Marie, and census records for the family show both Marie and Charles alive through 1940. Their interments are in Catholic Cemetery in Fort Wayne, Allen Cty, Indiana, with Charles passing in 1942 and Marie in 1953. I would have thought the existence of two women named Marie Perriguey in the same small geography (and of similar ages) unlikely, but many of the French Catholic families of early Fort Wayne and Allen Cty were quite large, and Marie is not exactly an uncommon name amongst those families.
