His wife's obituary states that he was a farmer; in the 1900 US Census, by which time he would have been in his mid-sixties and likely have retired from farming, he gives his occupation as "Night watchman." He also reports their marriage year as 1866 and their immigration year as 1872 in that same listing.

The Indiana Death Index listing gives his death as occuring in Maples, Indiana - which is a small, unincorporated community in Jefferson Twp, Allen Cty, Indiana.
