Narrative

[Marriage announcement for Amanda Schoen and Frank Hoeft, from the Oconomowoc Free Press, 26 May 1894.]

The marriage of Miss Amanda Schoen of Ixonia and Mr. Frank Hoeft of Watertown on Thursday afternoon at the German Lutheran church in this city, was an event of unusual interest in the German society circles of this vicinity. The bride wore white cashmere and lace, with full veil and wreath, and carried pink roses. She looked the ideal bride, and was attended by her sister, Miss Laura Schoen and Miss Phronie Sager, also in white, and Messrs. Gustavus Schoen and Christopher Hoeft acted as groomsmen. A large gathering of friends witnessed the ceremony, and over 200 guests were entertained at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Schoen. Every preparation conducive to the enjoyment of the guests was made and not until morning's dawn did the gay festivities cease. The carriage barn was magically converted into a beautiful dancing hall with spotless white draperies, festooned with garlands of green and illuminated with a profusion of chinese lanterns, all reflected by a highly polished floor, that resounded to the touch of the dancers' feet until the band played the final serenade at 4 .a.m. Elaborate refreshments were served, the house being converted into an immense dining hall and a temporary kitchen being built for the occasion.
