Narrative
Note: Laura and Emma Schoen
Sisters Laura and Emma Schoen never married, and neither one appear to have had any children; they remained living with their father (Charles) after the death of their mother (Louise) in 1923, and continued to live together after the death of their father until younger sister Emma's death in 1958. Laura would survive her until her own death in 1964.
Narrative
[Obituary for Laura Schoen, from the Oconomowoc Enterprise, 23 Jul 1964.]
[headline] Laura Schoen, 88 Last of Pioneer Family, Died
Miss Laura Schoen, 88, the daughter of pioneer residents of the Oconomowoc area, died Wednesday, July 15 at her home at 304 East Wisconsin Avenue.
Miss Schoen was born Dec. 13, 1875, in the town of Ixonia, the daughter of Carl and Louisa Backhaus Schoen. She moved to Oconomowoc with her parents when she was eight years old and had been a resident of the city since that time.
Mr. Schoen owned and operated a farm implement business next to the family home on East Wisconsin Avenue, and in the early 1900's changed it to an automobile agency and garage. Louis Schoen, a brother of Laura Schoen, later operated the garage.
She was one of 13 children and was preceded in death by all 12 of her brothers and sisters.
She is survived by four sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews.
Miss Schoen was a charter member of St. Matthew's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Oconomowoc, and prior to that time belonged to St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Matthew's Evangelical Lutheran Church, with the Rev. N.E. Paustian officiating. Burial was in La Belle Cemetery.
Friends called at the Notbohm Funeral Home after 6 p.m. Friday. The family suggests that contributions be made to the Laura Schoen Memorial Fund at St. Matthew's Evangelical Lutheran church if desired.
