Narrative

[Wedding announcement for Lydia Stargard and Joseph Fredrick, from the Oconomowoc Enterprise, 16 Apr 1915, p1.]

The marriage of Miss Lydia Stargard and Joseph B. Fredricks [sic] took place last Thursday at St. Paul's Lutheran parsonage, Rev. G.A. Kuhn officiating. Mr. and Mrs. Fredricks are residing on the George Snyder farm in the town of Summit.

Narrative

[Obituary for Mrs. Joseph Frederick, from the Oconomowoc Enterprise, 21 May 1920.]

The death of Mrs. Joseph Frederick [sic] occurred on Friday, May 14, after several months of ill health.

Mrs. Frederick, whose maiden name was Lydia Stargard, was born in Oconomowoc on Jan. 28, twenty-eight years ago. Her marriage to Mr. Frederick occurred on April 8, 1915 and she is survived by her husband and two little sons. She also leaves her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Julius Stargard of Oconomowoc, and two sisters and a brother, Mrs. Ernest Rosenow and Viola Stargard and Herbert Stargard of Oconomowoc.

Funeral services were held on Monday afternoon at St. Paul's Lutheran church with burial in La Belle cemetery. Rev. W.P. Hass officiated.

Narrative

Note: Death and descendancy of Lydia (Stargard) Fredrick

Family oral history recalls that Lydia died from complications of childbirth, presumably from delivery of her son Lawrence (born 13 Dec 1919); these complications may have taken some days or weeks to cause her death, as her death is listed as 1920.

ADDENDUM: Her obituary gives her date of death as 14 May 1920, five months after the birth of her youngest son, and states that she died "after several months of ill health." While unconfirmed, it is entirely possible that her son's birth was the event that started her decline.

SECOND ADDENDUM: Though I have not yet confirmed this, it appears that Lydia had only two grandchildren, by her younger son Lawrence. Neither Lawrence's obituary in 2000 nor his wife's in 2002 mentions any surviving grandchildren for the two of them, when their children (son Steven and daughter Pauline) would have been in their mid-forties. This would strongly suggest that Lydia has no great-grandchildren; contact with either of her grandchildren may clarify this question.
