Narrative

Note: Researching Franklin Paul Simon and family

Between a lack of available records, a few divorces, family migration, and a few other atypical reasons, I have only a partial picture of the family history of Franklin Paul and his immediate descendants. After his youth living with his family in Minnesota, Franklin went with his mother and older sister Violet to live in San Antonia, Bexar Cty, Texas, as counted in the 1930 US Census. By the time of the next federal census, he was counted as married and living with his wife, Texas-born Rubye Amelia Boriskie, daughter of John Boriskie (of Czech descent) and Cora Brandes (of Danish and German descent). I have not yet found any marriage record for Franklin and Rubye.

Rubye had previously married in Shelby Cty, Tennessee in 1926, to Thomas E. Maxon; the two of them appear to have divorced prior to 1930, as Thomas was counted as a bachelor in his maternal uncle's household in Shelby Cty. I have not yet found a listing for Rubye in that census, as she does not appear in the listing for her parents' householod in Brazos Cty, Texas that year.

As noted before, I have not found any marriage record for Franklin and Rubye, and have not found any clear indication of when or how they may have met; Bexar Cty and Brazos are nearly 200 miles apart. I have found only one birth record for a child born to them - Cora Frances Simon, b. 1951 in Brazos Cty.

Cora appears to have married twice in her life - first to James Howard Thomas Clark in 1971, and later to William R. "Rick" Moses, a musician, in 1978. Cora appears to have moved between Texas and Alaska at least a few times over the course of her adult life, though the details have been gathered mostly anecdotally from the obituaries for her husband Rick (in 2014) and daughter Cressida (in 2015).

Of Cora's children, I have only found records for one daughter - Cressida, b. 1972 to her first marriage with James. Cressida's obituary names a sister, Colby Clark Fitzpatrick, though I have found no records for Colby whatsoever and have no information for her. The obituary for Cora's second husband, Rick, appears to have been written by Cora herself, and also names Colby as a surviving daughter. The confluence of the "Clark" name for Colby in both obituaries suggests she is a daughter of Cora's first marriage, but I cannot confirm this currently. Additionally, I have not found any marriage record for Colby, nor any birth record for Colby's son, Colton James Fitzpatrick.

Cressida's obituary names both her father James and his companion, Terry Peck, as preceding her in death; I am uncertain as to a number of details of James' history after his marriage to Cora, though it does appear that their marriage ended in divorce and not his death. I have not found any marriage record for Cressida, nor a birth record for her daughter, Rowan Hastanand.

Cora died on Christmas Eve in 2018, and the only obituaries I have been able to find for her give no information about her family, either deceased or surviving.
