Narrative
Note: Researching Justin Cayot
I have not yet found many records for Justin Cayot, and the only one I have found that specifically ties him to the family that includes father Joseph, mother Marie, and brother Louis Joseph is the 1880 US Census record for their household in Jefferson Twp, Allen Cty, Indiana. In the 1900 US Census, he's listed as a twenty-two-year old "laborer" in the Jefferson Twp household of Charles Gerardot, who would be about the right age and in the right place to be a brother of Justin's step-father, Alexis Gerardot. This would have been not quite a year after the death of Justin's mother, Marie, which might understandably have left him searching for a place among the extended family.
In the 1910 US Census, there is found again a "Jeston Cayot" in Jefferson Twp, this time as a thirty-year-old unmarried "brother" in the household of "Frank Louraine," a forty-three-year-old widower who I believe was Frank Laurent (for whom there is a marriage record from Allen Cty in 1894 but the microfilm of which does not show the bride's name).
After 1910, I have not able to find any clear record of Justin, nor does there appear to be an applicable listing on the FindaGrave.com website for a burial for him. Whether he died sometime soon after 1910, or much later, is unknown, nor whether he remained in the immediate area of Allen Cty, Indiana after 1910.
The only obituary I have for his siblings thus far is for his brother Louis Joseph Cayot; there is no mention of Justin there, but that obituary lists only the surviving family (incuding the two half-sisters Rose and Mary, called step-sisters in the obituary). If Justin had died before Louis, that might explain his absence from the obituary.
