Narrative

Of Isaiah Thomas, his wife, and his children, there is no accounting available for him and his two eldest sons (Charles and Eugene) after 1880; his wife Hannah died in 1882, and of the four she is the only one for whom burial information is known. The remainder of his children are all living with extended family (on their mother's side) or foster families in the 1900 US Census listings, with the exception of the eldest (Vienna), who married in 1886. No 1890 census information is currently available for the family members. Additionally, no accounting is available for Etta or William after 1900, at which time they were living with their mother's brother and his family.

While I have no substantiation as of yet, it seems quite possible that a number of the family were killed by an outbreak of disease, and that the four of them died within a relatively short time of one another. The lack of records, and the scattering of the remaining children, would seem to support this idea, as a large number of deaths from disease (such as could occur in a local outbreak) might lead to just such a situation.

Of the seven children of Isaiah Thomas, death information is only known for three of them - Vienna, Minnie, and Katie. Minnie died in 1915, and as of the 1910 US Census she was married but apparently childless. Vienna and Katie each married and had children, so Isaiah's line appears to have continued solely through them.
