Narrative

Note: Rebecca (Thomas) Brewer

There is a death record dated June 1890 for a Rebecca Brewer, listed as single, in Tuscarawas Cty, Ohio; no age is given, nor any birthplace or parents' names, but her last place of residence is given as "Canal Dover." This suggests strongly to me that the record refers to Rebecca (Thomas) Brewer, daughter of Jacob Thomas and Anna Mary Weible. Her husband died in 1866, and her only daughter in 1879. I've been able to find no other record of her, and I have not found any indication that she had children other than Flora. It is my belief that she never remarried, and died a young widow of less than fifty years of age.

I've not found any burial record for her, suggesting to me that she may well have been buried in an unmarked grave, a potter's field, or simply with a basic marker that hasn't survived. If my assumptions are correct, she was a childless widow, and my other research (and a few additional assumptions) indicates that her parents had died before her and her surviving siblings had all moved much further west and out of Ohio. Though I haven't taken a full accounting, I don't think she even had any first cousins (from her father's side of the family) still living in the area. All of this may explain why she was buried in some manner that has been lost to time.
