[headline] George W. Bayha Died at County Hospital

[second line] Death of Well Known Bluffton Citizen Follows Week's Sickness with Pneumonia.

George Washington Bayha, 76 years old, a resident of Bluffton since 1853, died of pneumonia this afternoon at 2:10 o'clock at the Wells County hospital. He became sick a week ago today. Mr. Bayha was well known and highly respected in this community.

Until three years ago he was the custodian at the public library. He was formerly the caretaker at Fairview cemetery and the custodian of the Methodist church.

Born at Stringtown, Ohio, November 7, 1846, Mr. Bayha was a son of John G. and Agnes Hoblitzul Bayha, both of whom were born in Wurtemburg, Germany, and at the time of death had reached an age of 76 years, 4 months and 22 days. He came to Bluffton on November 27, 1852, and had resided here since. He made his home with a sister, Miss Eliza Bayha, at the corner of Miller and Morgan streets. He was never married.

One sister and three brothers survive: Miss Eliza Bayha, Bluffton; Lewis Bayha, Monongahela, Pa.; John Bayha, Morgansville, Kansas; Frank Bayha, Bluffton. Four sisters are deceased. They are Miss Lydia Bayha, Mrs. Mary Bayha Tribolet, Mrs. Emma Bayha Oman, and Mrs. Helen Bayha Tremain.

Funeral services will be held at the home Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock, with Rev. C.H. Smith in charge. Interment will be at Fairview.

Narrative

In the notes in her files, Jane Anne Thomas notes that George had spent many years as the caretaker for Fairview Cemetery in Bluffton, Wells Cty, Indiana, and that he had worked as a custodian at the public library in later years. She also notes that her mother remembered him as a painfully shy and quiet man who kept to himself, and that he never married and had no children. For many years of his adult life, up to the time of his death, he lived with his unmarried younger sister Eliza Jane "Lyde" Bayha.
