Narrative

Note: The marriage and family of Lois Roberta Buroker and Marion Ivan Derr

Marion Derr was married twice - first to Mary Elizabeth Harmon in 1925, and later to Lois Roberta Buroker in 1935. Sometime between the 1930 US Census (when Marion, Mary, and their son James Eugene Derr were listed as living in Piqua, Miami Cty, Ohio) and 1935, Marion and Mary divorced. Mary is listed as living in Marion, Marion Cty, Ohio in the 1940 US Census, as head of her household (with one female lodger) and with her marital status listed as "divorced."

Marion, his son James, and Lois are all found living Fletcher, Miami Cty, Ohio in the 1940 US Census (along with Marion's niece Helen Derr). Later, when James married (to Norma J. Tobias) in 1948, his marriage record reports his parents as Marion Derr and Lois Buroker, rather than Marion and first wife Mary. I had found the marriage record prior to the 1940 US Census record, which led me to believe that James was the biological child of Lois, until I compared his birthdate (1926) to Marion and Lois' wedding date (1935) - which was what led me to look for a previous marriage for Marion.

I do not know whether James had any relationship with his biological mother after his parents' divorce; I also do not know if Marion and Lois had any children together after 1935. It seems quite possible, as they were only in their early thirties in 1940, but I've not found any record to indicate that they did at this point.
