Narrative

Note: the birthdate of Carrie Call

Carrie's birthdate is in some question, mostly in regards to the year - when a date is given, it seems to consistently be 3 Mar. The earliest record I can find for her is the 1900 US Census record for her parents' household, in which she was reported as one year old with her birth listed as Mar 1899. In the following census in Apr 1910, she was reported as aged twelve (which would calculate back to a birth year of 1898).

In late 1915, at her marriage, she reported her birthdate as 3 Mar 1897; I suspect this was to make her appear to be eighteen at the time of her marriage.

In the following three US Census listings, her age was given as:

- twenty-one in January 1920 (birth year 1898).
- thirty-two in April 1930 (birth year 1898).
- forty-two in April 1940 (birth year 1898).

The birth year engraved on her headstone is 1898, as well. I think the first US Census listing is likely in error with regard to her age, and earlier year reported on the marriage record was, again, to possibly pass herself as an adult and legally able to marry without parental consent.
