Note: the birthdate of Everett E. Hillegas

Like his wife Carrie, Everett's birth year is in some question. When a date is reported, it has consistently been 1 Sep. For his listing in the US Census records, both before and after his marriage in 1915, his age was recorded as:

- three in September 1900 (birth year and month reported as Sep 1896, disagreeing with listed age).
- thirteen in April 1910 (birth year calculated as 1897).
- twenty-three in January 1920 (birth year 1897).
- thirty-three in April 1930 (birth year 1897).
- forty-three in April 1940 (birth year 1897).

On his marriage record from 30 Oct 1915, Everett reported his birthdate as 1 Sep 1895, giving his age as twenty. Less than three years later, on his WWI Draft Registration card, Everett reported his birthdate as 1 Sep 1897. The year engraved on his tombstone is 1896.

Like his wife, I suspect Everett misreported his age at the time of his marriage so as to appear older. I am uncertain, though, whether the correct year for his birth would have been 1896 or 1897.
