Narrative

Note: Researching Ruben Hover

A public Ancestry.com tree (owner "bsn527") gives Ruben's date of birth and death, along with his parents' names and vital dates (Henry Marshall Hover, b. 1790 in Sussex Cty, New Jersey, d. 10 Apr 1855 in Marion Cty, Ohio; Leah Jones, b. 11 Feb 1797, d. 30 Sep 1840 in Montgomery, Marion Cty, Ohio). Henry's lineage goes back another several generations in that tree.

Other trees show Ruben dying in Kansas in 1865, as well, with at least one also showing the family's residence in Kansas in the 1865 Kansas state census.

Further searches turn up a transcription of family register pages from a Bible belonging to Ruben's father, Henry Marshall Hover; in that text, in addition to a recording of Ruben's birth and marriage to "Harriet Wait," is a passage recording Ruben's death:

"Ruben son of Henry and Leah Hover died of Consumption in Nemaha Co. Kansas, November 26th 1865 aged 41 years 10 months and 12 days. His remains lie buried on a farm ( ) by ( ) Hessletine about 3 miles N W of the present site of (Looks like Harry but could be Henry) Nemaha Co. Kansas and about 30 rods south of where Mr. H’s house now stands.
Though alone sleeper on the prairie vast,
As brothers we will not disturb thee.
We have been (?seatters) in life
And parted in death.
But we will meet at the
Resurrection of the Just.
C. Hover."

The unnamed transcriber mentions in a few portions of the overall text that she believes the signatory to have been Cornelius Hover, Ruben's youngest brother.
