Narrative

[Obituary for Mrs. Mary M. Hinklin, from The Marion Daily Mirror, 14 Apr 1908, p5.]

Mrs. Mary M. Hinklin, widow of the late Henry Hinklin, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. W. Wingerd of near DeCliffe, at eight o'clock Monday evening. Her death resulted after an illness of several months with old age and complication of diseases.

The deceased was aged eighty years and had been a resident of Montgomery township for more than fifty years. She was an active member of the Methodist church and an earnest Christian worker.
Four children are living. They are Dr. William Hinklin of Marion, George H. Hinklin of LaRue, Mrs. J. L. McGuire, of north of LaRue and Mrs. Wingerd at whose home death occurred. There are nineteen grand children and fifteen great grand children surviving.

Funeral services will be conducted from the Methodist church at DeCliffe, Wednesday afternoon, at 2 o'clock, Rev. G. F Kinnar assisted by Rev. E. N. Long to officiate. Interment will be made in the LaRue cemetery.

Narrative

Many of the records and notes I have seen for Mary Martha have reported her maiden name as Cutter, though the reference to her (and her parents) in her husband's biography in The History of Marion County, Ohio (1883) gives her surname as Cutler.

ADDENDUM: Her family (immediate and extended) is thoroughly detailed in the text A Cutler Memorial and Genealogical History (1889), giving the surname quite clearly as Cutler. The indexed records and notes giving the family surname as "Cutter" are likely due to misread transcriptions.
