320. Abner (7) Cutler (Abner (6), Joel (5), Abner (4), Thomas (3), Thomas (2), James (1)) was born June 18, 1792, in Vermont. When a young man he accompanied his parents to Avon, Genesee County, N. Y. He was one of the small band of two hundred Vol. Militia that defended the Military Post at Buffalo, N. Y., in July, 1813, under command of Gen. Peter V. Porter. Soon after he went to Highland County, O., where he married December 25, 1817, Mary, daughter of Jonathan Wotton of Jay County, Ind., born in Virginia. He removed to what is now Mercer County O., and settled on the battle field where St. Clair was defeated by the Indians in 1791. In 1845 he went to Wabash, Ind., where he resided until his death, April 23, 1876, age eighty four. His wife survived until February 8, 1886, aged eighty-seven, dying at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Grover. He was by occupation millwright and farmer. Children:

i. Jane (8), b. April 15, 1820; m. John Grover of Rockport, Mass., June 15, 1837; d. Oct. 6, 1863. Had four ch., two of whom d. young: Lucy (9) Grover, m. Joseph Wigner; resides at Wabash, Ind. Martha A. (9) Grover, m. Albert Kaufman; resides at Elkhart, Ind.

ii. Jonas,b.May 18,1822.

iii. Sophia, b. Aug. 6, 1823; m. Samuel Dixon; had five daughters and one son. She d. Feb. 5, 1860, in Mercer
Co., Ohio.

v. Mary M, b. June 17, 1828; m. Henry Hinkle, Jan. 17, 1850; resides in Parne, Marion Co., O.

vi. Clarissa, b. March 8,1830; m. (1) Sept. 27, 1849, Wm. Howell, who d. Aug. 11, 1863; had six ch.; she m. (2) Henry Bechtol, and had one dau.; she resides in Wabash, Ind., and has taken the name of her first husband.

x. Elizabeth A., b. March 8, 1840; m. John V. Cox, Aug. 14,1856. Have had nine ch., six of whom are living; reside at Wabash, Ind.
