Narrative

[Obituary for Victoria C. Baker, posted online to the FindaGrave.com website by Becky Jacobs.]

[headline] Mrs. George W. Baker

Mrs. Victoria C. Baker, 90, who had resided in Marion almost her entire life died Friday, August 6, at 8:30 p.m. at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Beckley in Richwood. She had only been seriously ill a few days.

Born Feb. 29, 1864, her parents were W.F. and Hannah E. Couger Hill. She was married to Geo. W. Baker at new Bloomington, and he died there, Nov. 11, 1900.

Surviving are five children, W. Alden Baker of near Prospect; L. Warren, James M. and Fred L. all of near Essex; and Walter L. of 436 Olney Ave.; and a brother and sister, W. Fred Hill of 269 Prospect St. and Phoebe Beckley of Richwood; 15 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren. A daughter preceded her in death in 1938.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 1:30 in Emanuel Lutheran Church in Marion conducted by Rev. M.E. Robinson. Burial was made in Chapel Heights Memory Gardens in Marion.

Narrative

Victoria's first marriage, to George W. Baker, ended with his death in 1900; her second marriage, in 1908, was to Philip Bauer Jr., with whom she was living at the time of the 1910 and 1920 US Censuses. Sometime after 1920, the two of them must have divorced, as Philip remarried in 1923, and Victoria was found in the 1930 US Census living as a widowed lodger in Marion, Marion Cty, Ohio, and using her first married surname (Baker).
