Narrative
Note: Researching Emma Lehmann and family
Thus far, I have not had much luck researching Emma (Lehmann) Will and her family. After her birth in late 1879 and early life with her family, the next records I can find are in 1900 - a marriage record from May for her and Henry Arthur Will in Dodge Cty, Wisconsin, and shortly after that a 1900 US Census record for the two of them in June.
I have found US (1910, 1920) and Wisconsin (1905) census listings for the couple and their subsequent children, though I have only found birth records for the first child (Genevieve) and third child, (Gladiola). All six of them appear in the 1920 US Census listing for the household, but after that I have not found a listing for any of the six in the 1930 US Census. By the time of the 1940 US Census, the household listing included only Emma and her husband Henry. After this, I have not found death records for either Emma or Henry, but there is a listing for each of them on the FIndaGrave.com website, noting their deaths in 1944 (Henry) and 1951 (Emma).
For their children, the records I have found are not much more complete:
- Ivor W. Will, their second-oldest child and only son, is buried in the same cemetery as Emma and Henry, with his death noted in 1948. His stone is a single stone, with no indication of a wife or children, and I have found no other record of him (including a death date, though no location) after the 1920 US Census. I have not found a birth record for him, nor a complete name, and I have no knowledge of whether he ever married or had children.
- Third-born Gladiola Lillian Gladys Will is one of the two for whom I have found birth records (and thus a complete name), but I have found no record for her after the 1920 US Census. This includes any death date or location, whether she ever married or had children, or where she resided after 1920.
- Youngest known child Goldie Will was born about 1906, and was counted with the family through the 1920 US Census, but like Gladiola, I have not found any record of her death date or location, nor whether she ever married or had children. Like her brother, I have not found a birth record for her, and have no record of her complete name.
Of the four known children, I have found the most complete accounting for the oldest Genevieve Hazel J. Will. Born in late 1900, five months after her parents' marriage, she was counted with the family's household through the 1920 US Census. Sometime in the early 1920s, she married Laverne F. Lowe, and the two of them had two children (son Laverne, b. 1925, and daughter Marjorie, b. 1929) before moving to Minnesota by 1930. The family was counted in the 1940 US Census in Minnesota, and in 1944 the younger Laverne was killed in Germany during WWII. In later years, Genevieve and her husband appear to have relocated to Arizona to live close to their only surviving child, Marjorie, where they died in 1989 (Genevieve) and 1993 (Laverne). Genevieve and her husband were each buried in the same cemetery as her parents, in Fort Atkinson, Jefferson Cty, Wisconsin.
I will note that there is a possibility that Genevieve and Laverne may have had other children after 1940, but this seems unlikely from what I have seen so far. Additionally, I will note that Emma and Henry may well have
