The Hyphen Family Lineage

I have not yet removed Martha from the list of Wilhelm and Ottilie's children, but she is not counted on the 1880 Census record as a child in their household. There is a "Mattie" on that record, but she is listed as being three years old at the time of the census, while the birthdate I have for Martha is 1871. Interestingly, though, there is a Theodor Wendt buried in La Belle Cemetery in Oconomowoc (WI) whose birth and death dates line up with the information I have for Theodor (son of Wilhelm and Ottilie, brother to Mathilda Wendt Stargard) - and he is buried with his spouse Martha. It is possible that at some confused point in searches and record-keeping, Martha has been assumed to be a daughter of Wilhelm and Ottilie, when she may well have been a daughter-in-law instead.

ADDENDUM: the birth and death dates for Theodor Wendt's spouse Martha are different from those I have from previous Stargard family genealogy work, the notes for which list this Martha (daughter of Ottilie and Wilhelm) as born in 1871 and died in 1956. I have not located a grave for a Martha Wendt with those birth and death dates, so it is possible that her listing with the other Wendt children is correct and the reason for not finding her thus far is that she married and is buried under that name. The main problem with assuming she exists is that the notes list the same birth and death dates for Martha as for Mathilda, whose existence and relationships are confirmed both by records and by living memories. I'm still inclined to believe that her inclusion is a mistake or mis-transcription somewhere along the line.

SECOND ADDENDUM: I have finally found reference to the unknown daughter Martha, starting with an uncredited obituary for her mother Ottilie (Schultz) Wendt. On 31 Aug 1899 she married the German-born Franz "Frank" Hermann Eckert (or Eckart). They had at least one child, a daughter who appears to have been born on Christmas day (25 Dec) 1900. I have not yet located their graves or any further information.

THIRD ADDENDUM: Carolyn (Stargard) Nagel has recollection that Martha and Frank Eckert lived in the Rome/Sullivan (WI) area, and are likely buried in a church there in the immediate area.
