Betty J. Mendenhall, 58, 252 S. Main St., Roanoke, died at 8:06 p.m. Saturday (Aug. 22, 1987) at St. Joseph Medical Center, Fort Wayne. She had been ill about four weeks.
Mrs. Mendenhall had worked in the flea market business for about five years. She had attended the First Brethren Church, Roanoke.
She was born Dec. 12, 1928, in Poe, to Garrett and Mabel Smith Hess. Her marriage was on Dec. 12, 1947, in Yoder, to John P. Mendenhall. Her husband survives.
Additional survivors include her stepfather, Philemon Millington, Bluffton; five sons, Jim Mendenhall, Fort Wayne, Dale Mendenhall, Ceres, Calif., Rex Mendenhall, Roanoke, Carl Mendenhall, Roanoke, and Don Mendenhall, Roanoke; a daughter, Mrs. Harry (Mary) Irons, Ocala, Fla.; three sisters, Mary Schlaudraff, Fort Wayne, Elsie Scott, Fort Wayne, and Arnola Thorn, Roanoke; a brother, Carl Hess, Yoder; and seven grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Bert Davis, and a brother, George Hess.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Schafer Memorial Chapel, Roanoke. Services will be held there at 1 p.m. Tuesday with Rev. James Sluss officiating. Burial will be in the Glenwood Cemetery, Roanoke.
Preferred memorials are contributions to the Allen County Cancer Society.
