Narrative

Note: Henrietta Miller

Despite the large amount of information found in the files of Jane Anne Thomas, and the level of attention given to this branch of the family by her mother and grandmother, Mary Alice (Bayha) Thomas and Elfrieda "Effie" (Stuver) Bayha, I could find no mention of Henrietta's parents in any of the records or notes in the files. There was quite a bit of information on Henrietta's siblings, along with her husband's siblings, as the two families had associated quite a bit over the decades through their migration from Ohio to Indiana. Additionally, there was some degree of intermarriage - the first wife of Henrietta's brother-in-law, Samuel Forst, was her sister Elizabeth.

The specific spelling of her given name has not yet been confirmed, although I will note that being German-born would tend to indicate that she likely had three given names, and Henrietta was her called name. I have not yet found any record of her full or birth name. She was commonly called Harriet, as recorded on multiple census records as well as her shared gravestone with her husband.

In most of Jane Anne's writings, she provides little personal information on Henrietta beyond noting that she came to America with her parents at about the age of ten, and was believed to have been born in Bavaria. As noted in my file for her husband, Henrietta had only four grandchildren, starting with Effie (who lived with her grandparents for a large portion of her teen years) and ending with the youngest, Earl Forst. Effie was a thirty-year-old married mother of three at the time of Henrietta's death, while Earl was only a twelve-year-old boy. By the time of Henrietta's death in late 1900, she had seen the birth of five great-grandchildren, of the fifteen surviving great-grandchildren that would come.
