Narrative

Ray C. Forst, 65, owner and proprietor of the Jefferson Sport Shop, 16 South Jefferson Street, and former resident of 621 Division Street, died of a heart ailment abut 5 pm. Sunday, in the Robbins ambulance as he was being brought to the Huntington County hospital from Big Lake where he suffered the fatal attack about an hour earlier. He had been in failing health for five years and in February 1953, suffered a heart attack. His health declined since that time. Dr. Grover M. Nie, county coroner, was at the hospital.

Served as Police Chief. Mr. Forst, who was chief of police for some time during the C.W.H. Bangs administration, was born July 28, 1888, in Huntington county to Alfred and Martha Bersch Forst. He spent his entire life in the community. His first marriage was to Blanche Albert and the second on July 10, 1928, was to Maria Wonnell.

Surviving are the widow, a son of the first marriage, Albert R. Forst, this city; three daughters by the first marriage, Mrs. Ervin Conrad and Miss Helen Forst, Fort Wayne, and Mrs. Roy Yenowine, Orleans; five grandchildren, Kent A. and Karen R. Forst, this city, and Barbara Ann, Donna and Cynthia Yenowine, Orleans; and a sister, Mrs. Harold Vergon, Clear Creek Township. There are several nieces and nephews. A brother, Delbert Forst, is dead.

Mr. Forst was a former member of the First Evangelical United Brethren church.

The body was removed to the Robbins Funeral home where friends may call after 7:30 pm. Monday and where funeral services will be held at 10:30 am. Wednesday with the Rev. Walter Rogers, of the Lancaster Wesleyan Methodist Church, officiating.

Burial will be in the Clear Creek Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Arthur Young, Claude Cline, Dan Collins, John Lind, Dallas Heyde and Carl Heyde.
