Howard R. Smith, 89, of Kendallville and formerly of the Fort Wayne, Ossian, and Yoder area, died Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2001, at Shepherd of the Hill Nursing Home.

The Allen County native was a retired farmer, a member of the Ossian United Methodist Church and a member of Harmony IOOF Lodge in Fort Wayne. Surviving are a daughter, Connie E. Lake of Wolcotville; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna M., and a brother. Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Funeral Home, Ossian, with calling from 2 to 8 p.m. today. Burial will be at Covington Memorial Gardens, Fort Wayne. Memorials are to the church.

Condolences to the family, friends, and classmates of Howard Smith, 89, who died Aug. 1.

Howard, a member of the 1930 class of Lafayette Central, and his wife Edna spent their life farming in Lafayette Township. Edna preceded him in death.

He is survived by a daughter, Connie Lake, or Wolcotville; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
