Narrative

Her surname may be mistaken, as I have not yet found any record of any Nipke/Nipka family anywhere in Wisconsin. Another researcher in a genealogy forum had speculated that this was a misreading or misspelling of Nitschke or similar, and this seems much more likely.

ADDENDUM: A quick perusal of indexed records from Germany and Prussia turns up another possible spelling of the surname (Knoepke) that shows up in records from Brandenburg. This could quite easily have been anglicized as "Nipke."

SECOND ADDENDUM: The marriage record for her daughter Minnie gives Louisa's maiden name as "Luebke." The marriage record for her daughter Anna gives it as "Luetka."

THIRD ADDENDUM: The obituary for her daughter Minnie gives her Louisa's maiden name as Luepke. Additionally, the large number of families in central Dodge Cty, Wisconsin in the late 19th and early 20th century with the name "Luebke" suggests to me that her maiden name was just Luebke. Whether these oher families are relations of hers (distant or not) I have not yet discovered.
