Narrative

[Obituary for Edward Watterson, from the Oconomowoc Enterprise, 19 Jan 1934, p5.]

Edward Watterson, 80, died at the home of his son, Edmund, Juneau avenue, Monday morning after an illness of a few weeks.

Mr. Watterson, who had been living in Oconomowoc for the past several years, was born July 9, 1853 at Spencerford, New York, and came to Mapleton with his parents when he was nine years old.

He is survived by one son, Edmund, Oconomowoc, one daughter, Mrs. Viola Fulmer, Nashotah, 12 grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Miles of Stone Bank.

Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon from the Notbohm Funeral Home. Burial was in St. Catherine's cemetery at Mapleton. The Rev. L. K. Johnson conducted the services.

Narrative

In the 1870 US Census for Ashippun, Dodge Cty, Wisconsin, on the same page directly above the household of Edward's father John Watterson is the household of Phillip Daley ("Daily"), including Phillip's daughter Mary Jane Daley, Edward's future wife. It would appear the families had neighboring farms while Edward and Mary Jane were growing up.
