Frederick L. "Peanut" Smith, 73, a lifelong resident of Huntington, died at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday at Norwood Nursing Center in Huntington.

He retired in 1986 from Erie Railroad/Conrail as a brakeman after more than 30 years. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of the Good Shepherd Church and VFW Post 2689 at Huntington.

He was born in Huntington Dec. 30, 1925 to Chester R. and Edna Heaston Smith Beaver. His marriage on Nov. 4, 1948 at Huntington was to Billie Jean Rish, who survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Thomas R. and Mark D., both of Huntington, and William J. of Uniondale; two daughters, Mrs. Rod (Mari E.) Jackson and Mrs. Rob (Amy J.) Burnau, both of Huntington; five brothers, Gerald B. of Fort Wayne, Elois R. and Leo H., both of Huntington, Delbert of Van Wert, Ohio, and Carlos V. of West Virginia; two sisters, Mrs. Dale (Marjorie E.) Caley and Mrs. Willard (Janet) Garretson, both of Huntington; and 11 grandchildren. A son, Steven Kent, a brother and a sister are deceased.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bailey-Love Mortuary at Huntington, where calling hours are today from 3 to 8 p.m. and Saturday at the mortuary from 9 a.m. until time for services.

Rev. Larry Taylor and Rev. C. Ray Miller will officiate and burial will be in Pilgrims Rest Cemetery at Huntington.

Frederick L. "Peanut" Smith, 73, 755 N. LaFontaine St., died at 6:15 p.m. Tueday (Nov. 23, 1999) at the Norwood Nursing Center.

Mr. Smith retired as a brakeman with Erie/Conrail Railroad in 1986, after more than 30 years of service. He was a member of the Good Shepherd Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2689. He served in the Army during World War II.

He was born Dec. 30m 1925, in Huntington to Chester R. Smith and Edna Heaston Smith. He married Billie Jean Rish Nov. 4, 1948 in Huntington. His wife survives.

Calling is 3-8 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service Saturday at the Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 W. Park Dr. Rev Larry Taylor and Rev. C. Ray Miller will officiate at the service.

Burial wil be at the Pilgrims Rest Cemetery.
