Funeral services were held Friday in Ballinger Funeral Home for Lena B. Harris, 83, who died Wednesday, March 21 at Marion Manor Nursing Home. Rev. Dan Huther officiated. Burial was in Claibourne Cemetery.

Born Nov. 28, 1895 in Union County, she was a daughter of David and Phoebe Hill Beckley. She was first married to Lloyd Coder. She later married Blaine Harris who preceded her in death in 1961.

A former Richwood resident, she was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the American Legion Auxiliary, Claibourne Grange and Richwood Civic Center.

Surviving is one son, John L. Coder of Timonium, Md,. two grandchildren, and a brother, George Beckley of Richwood.

Narrative

Note: Researching Lena Beckley

Lena appears to have married at least three times - first in 1914 to Ralph E. Horton. This marriage must have ended in divorce, as he was remarried in Union Cty, Ohio in 1921. Her next marriage was to Lloyd J. Coder at some point prior to the birth of their son, John L. "Jack" Coder in 1922. Whether their marriage ended in divorce or his death I haven't determined yet, though the wording of her obituary would indicate it was likely divorce sometime after 1930. By 1940, she had remarried to J. Blaine Harris, with whom she and Jack were living at the time of the 1940 US Census. They would remain married until his death in 1961.

Jack appears to have enlisted in the Army during WWII, and must have married and had children given the mention of two surviving grandchildren in Lena's obituary. (She appears to have had no other children.) Lena's obituary gives Jack's residence (at the time of her death in 1979) as Timonium, Baltimore Cty, Maryland. There is a listing for a John L. Coder interred in Venice Presbyterian Church Memorial Garden in Venice, Sarasota Cty, Florida, with the appropriate birth year, but I do not have confirmation that this listing is for the same man.
