[Obituary for Glenn Beckley, posted online to the FindaGrave.com website by Becky Jacobs.]

Funeral services were held Wednesday in Ballinger Funeral Home for Glen Beckley, 84, formerly of the Richwood area. Mr. Beckley died at 6:16 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 7 in San Antonio Nursing Home. He had been in failing health for several years.

A retired teacher, he was of the Methodist faith. He was a member of Harmony Lodge 27 F & AM, South Carolina.

Born Jan. 18, 1888 in New Bloomington, O., he was a son of David W. and Phebe E. Hill Beckley. Aug. 3, 1929 he married the former Lillian Rader.

Surviving is his widow, a foster daughter, Mrs. Carl Rice of Milford Center; a brother, George, and two sisters, Mrs. Lena Harris and Mrs. Lucretia Welsh, all of Richwood. Three brothers and three sisters are deceased.

Rev. Gay Yoders officiated at the funeral services. Burial was in Claibourne Cemetery.

Note: The marriages and family of Glenn Beckley

Glenn appears to have married three times - first in 1908 to Alice Jones, who was alive and resident with Glenn in the 1920 US Census in Marion, Marion Cty, Ohio. I am unsure as to whether they divorced or if Alice died, but in 1925 he remarried to Ada (Durfey) Cowgill, who indicated on their marriage license that she was widow, thirty-nine years of age. (It should be noted that she was actually forty-four at the time of their marriage.) This second marriage of Glenn's didn't seem to last long, and is presumed to have ended in divorce - Ada appears to have died (and is buried) in Florida in 1975 - and Glenn married again in 1929 to the forty-year-old Lillian Rader, who would remain his wife until the two of them died months apart in 1973 in Kenton, Hardin Cty, Ohio.

The obituaries for both Glenn and Lillian mention a foster daughter, named Mrs. Carl Rice, but with no other name given. Notably, the 1920 US Census listing for Glenn's household included his first wife (Alice), his sister Goldie (listed as a widow), and an eight-year-old daughter named "Leonore" in the listing. I am unsure if this is the same woman as the foster daughter mentioned in the obituaries, or if this is a daughter of Glenn and Alice's born to them. As an outside likelihood, I have found myself curious as to whether this eight-year-old was actually Goldie's daughter, as her the record of her married life seems relatively sparse. Either way, I have not found any further records for a Beckley girl or woman, born about 1912, bearing the name Leonore or any reasonably close-sounding name (such as Lenore or Lenore).

At some point, I will try to look further into the identify of Mrs. Carl Rice to determine her place in this family's history.

I have also not found confirmed a 1910 US Census listing for Glenn and his household, though it should be noted that there is a household in Marion, Marion Cty, Ohio for a Lemuel Beckley (age twenty-two) and wife Alice Beckley (age twenty-one) that may or may not be Glenn and Alice.
