Narrative

Note: Researching Ernest Henry Kitzrow

The WWI draft registration card for Ernest names his closest contact as a "Milda Kitzrow." His father's name, Henry, can be seen scratched out on the original line. He does not appear to have served in WWI, but there is an enlistment record for him in WWII, and his grave marker denotes him a WWII veteran.

ADDENDUM: the 1930 US Census listing for his parents shows them living in Milwaukee, Milwaukee Cty, Wisconsin, with son Ernest (marked as "divorced") and grandsons Forrest (age 10) and Glenn (age 9) and granddaughter Carol (age 5). The 1940 US Census listing for Ernest shows him as the head of household, married but with no wife listed, and living with his parents and children Forest (age 19), Glen (age 18), and Carol (age 15).

SECOND ADDENDUM: The WWII enlistment papers for Ernest in August 1942 note him as divorced with no dependents. I have not found a listing for Ernest in the 1920 US Census as of yet, but he was not living with his parents at that time (who were living in Milwaukee with their eldest son, Charles, and his wife). It appears he was married by the time he completed his WWI draft registration card in 1917, had at least three children, and was divorced sometime after 1925 (the approximate birth year of his youngest, daughter Carol). By 1930, he was living with his parents in Milwaukee. By the time of his enlistment, in 1942, Carol would have been in her late teens, and may have resided with other family or possibly even been married by then.

THIRD ADDENDUM: A short reference in the Sheboygan Press, 11 Nov 1921, p6, notes that "Mrs. Oscar Langner has returned from a two days' visit in Milwaukee, where she was the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Kitzrow. Mrs. Kitzrow was formerly Miss Milda Bundt, this city."

This finally gave me a name for Ernest's wife; looking a bit further reveals a 1930 US Census listing for Milda Kitzrow, aged thirty-two, as a single boarder in Milwaukee. I have still not found any 1920 US Census listing for the couple as of yet, nor any marriage record.
