Narrative
[Obituary for Ambrose J. Daley, from the Oconomowoc Enterprise, 22 Jul 1932, p3.]
The death of Ambrose J. Daley, well known merchant of Alderly, veteran of the World war and prominent in this community for many years, occurred Sunday morning at the Edward Hines Memorial hospital at Maywood, Ill., his demise following an illness of the past nine months.
Mr. Daley was born Dec. 23, 45 years ago at Mapleton, his parents being pioneer residents of the locality. He had been engaged in the hardware business in Alderly for about 17 years and was married on June 10, 1925, to Miss Margaret Moldenhauer of Alderly, they continuing to make their home in that village.
He is survived by his wife and two little sons, Byron and Archie Daley. He also leaves the following brothers and sisters: John Daley of Mapleton; Michael Daley of North Lake; Mrs. Dennis Haye of Hartford; Mrs. James Sullivan of Shorewood; Miss Elizabeth Daley of Nashvill [sic], Tenn; Misses Elinor and Katherine Daley of Oconomowoc, Jhilip [sic] Daley, passed away in this city June 9, 1932.
Mr. Daley was a member of the Knights of Columbus, of the choir of St. Jerome's Catholic church of this city for several years, and of the American Legion. He served in the 69th Artillery during the World war and saw service overseas.
Mr. Daley was a man of fine principles and Christian demeanor, always ready to help others in time of need. His sense of humor and fine personality won him a host of lasting friendships and his departure from this life in the very noonday of his career leaves a saddened home and family circle bereft of a beloved member. Divine Providence has called him to his reward.
Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at St. Catherine's Catholic church at Mapleton with interment in St. Catherine's cemetery.
