Narrative
[Obituary for Robert E. Trullender, from the Muncie Star Press, 15 Nov 1987, p26.]
Robert E. Trullender, 66, a former resident of Muncie, died Friday morning in Veterans Hospital in Kerrville, Texas. He had been in ill health for some time but his death came unexpectedly, apparently as the result of a heart attack.
He was born in Bluffton, moved to Muncie as a child with his parents, Arthur and Flossie Jackson Trullender, and graduated from Central High School. He served in the European Theatre with the Army during World War II.
Mr. Trullender was employed with Coca Cola Bottling Co. in Muncie many years before moving to Texas, and he continued working for the firm there. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Muncie.
Surviving are two sons, Robert E. Trullender Jr., Louisiana, and Ronald Trullender, Texas; his mother, Flossie Worl Cress, and his sister, Martha (Mrs. Herbert) Brown, both of Muncie; four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
His wife, Evon Carey Trullender, died in 1972.
Meeks Mortuary will announce arrangements.
Narrative
Note: Researching the grandchildren of Robert Earl Trullender Sr.
Robert Sr. and his wife Blanche had two sons - Robert Jr. (b. 1944) and Ronald (b. 1947). Despite Blanche's relatively early death in 1972 - when her sons were aged twenty-eight and twenty-five, and at least one of them married by that point - her obituary still indicated three grandchildren among the survivors. At Robert Sr.'s death fifteen years later, in 1987, that count had increased by only one, to four grandchildren.
Between Robert Jr. and Ronald, I have found birth records for a total of three children - only one of which was born before their father's death in 1987, and none of which were born prior to their mother's death in 1972. This would strongly suggest that I do not have a complete accounting of Robert Sr.' s descendancy at this point, as the three born prior to 1972 are not included in the findings I have thus far.
