Narrative

Note: The family of Clara Josephine Urbine

Clara's family began somewhat early and abruptly, when she and and her first husband, George Barker, married in Ohio just eleven weeks before the birth of their daughter Myrtle May in late 1897. It is unknown how long the couple remained together, but it is presumed they divorced very early in their marriage (see the notes for Myrtle May Barker). Clara remarried in 1902 to William Alfred Lenington, and the two of them remained married until his death in 1938. In addition to her daughter Myrtle, Clara had five other children:

- Cecil Lenington, her oldest son, was last counted as living with his mother in the 1940 US Census as a single man in his late thirties; I have not found any indication that he ever married or had children.

- Orville married in 1930 and had two children and at least two grandchildren.

- Zilpha married in 1933 and had four children prior to divorcing her husband; I do not know how long they remained married, though I suspect that they divorced not long after the birth of their youngest child, which was about 1942. I have not found indications that Zilpha ever remarried. The obituary for her uncle, Joseph Urbine, did note that he had made his home with her, suggesting she may have acted as his caregiver in his later years.

- Vera, the youngest surviving child, married some time after 1940 and had two children.

- Onetta, the youngest child of Clara's, died at the age of eighteen months of an accidental poisoning.
