Narrative

Note: Records for Melbourne K. Weible from 1930 onward

After he was counted in his parents' household in the 1920 US Census, there are some potential points of confusion regarding the records I have found for Melbourne.

In the 1930 US Census, there are two listings for Melbourne Weible, twelve days apart, both in Flint, Genessee Cty, Michigan. Both listings give his birthplace as Michigan, and his occupation as "Decorator" with his employer described as "own," suggesting he was self-employed. There are a few differences in the listings, though I think they still each describe the same man.

- In the listing dated 2 Apr 1930, Melbourne (age given as twenty-four) appears in the household of George Wilson, but is listed as a "son" of the household alongside two other individuals bearing the Weible surname (Fern, age nineteen, and George, age one). Melbourne's marital status is given as divorced, and his parents' birthplaces are reported as Iowa (father) and Illinois (mother).

- In the listing dated 14 Apr 1930, Melbourne (age given as twenty-six) appears as a lodger in the household of Robert Burns, with his marital status given as married and his parents' birthplaces each given as Ohio.

His death record from 1933 also gives Melbourne as married, though I have not found any marriage record for him.

Interestingly, if we make the assumption that the other Weibles in the 2 Apr 1930 listing are Melbourne's wife and child, there is a 1940 US Census listing for the household of Logan Stagg in Burton Twp, Genesee Cty, Michigan that also includes Logan's wife Fern Stagg (age twenty-eight) and stepson George Weible (age eleven). Whether Fern remarried after a divorce from Melbourne or after his death is unknown.

George, Melbourne's potential son in this speculation, may well be the George A. Weible (b. 19 Mar 1929, d. 16 May 2005) who is buried in Parkview Memorial Cemetery, Livonia, Wayne Cty, Michigan, though I have not confirmed this.
