Narrative

There is a Charles W. Stuver buried in Mount Hope Cemetery, Huntington, Huntington Cty, Indiana, b. 1880 d 1936; this would be about the right age for the Charles, son of Alfred and Martha Jane (Cooper) Stuver. I don't have a copy of his obituary to confirm, and the only records I've found for him for certain thus far are the 1910 and 1920 US Census listings for his father's household. Other than Charles, the first of his siblings to pass away was William in 1954, and William's obituary names only John as a surviving brother, indicating that Charles had likely died sometime prior to 1954.

There are a few newspaper articles of interest pertaining to Charles (found via the OCR-captured text from the scans found on the Newspapers.com website). In the 20 Sep 1894 issue of the Huntington Democrat, there is an article about Charles being in some legal trouble, having been associated with a group of boys that committed robbery; Charles was acquitted by the judge, according to the article, but was given a stern lecture. In the 2 Feb 1906 issue of the Huntington Daily News Democrat, there is an article about Charles sending a letter from California to his father Alfred, saying he intends to go to Texas, and after some time will return to Indiana. The article mentions that Charles had been gone from Indiana for "the past two years," traveling over several states and "enjoying the southern climates."

Of Alfred's children, I would expect that Charles likely led the most colorful life. For the meantime, I've adopted the dates from the FindaGrave.com listing.
