Narrative
[Obituary for Maude Tribolet, from the Bluffton Evening News, 7 Jan 1896.]
[headline] IN HER YOUTH.
[second headline] Death Cuts Short a Life of Rare Promise and Usefulness.
A dark cloud o'er-shadows the home of J.W. Tribolet and family, because of the death of their sescond daughter, Maude, who fell peacefully asleep at eleven o'clock last night. She was born Nov. 28th, 1877 and celebrated her eighteenth birthday Thanksgiving day, 1895.
Her illness dates from the early summer of 1894, the time of her graduation from the city schools, and while her disease was known to be fatal in nature, her friends hoped for her, at least temporary recovery. About two months ago, however, her strength began to decline so rapidly as to occasion great alarm. Her death, though anticipated, is a great blow to the parents who are trying to penetrate the cloud for light beyond.
Mause was a child of much promise. Never strong physically, she appeared like some tender plant of the garden blooming accidentally amid the hardier natives of the field. She possessed, at least three rare gifts; a clear mind, a bright intellect and much more than ordinary musical talent, all of which she used to a good purpose.
The superiority of her charms was felt and recognized by her companions but without envy, for it was surpassed by the unassuming gentleness and winning kindness of her manner. She was an earnest member of the Methodist Episcopal church and Sabbath school, and an active worker in the Epworth League.
Her life here, though brief has not been in vain, and she has been called to a higher service. Her's indeed will be a Heavenly home, for as she lived she died, quietly, calmly and peacefully.
