GARTH L. DURR, 88, died Sunday at his home. Born in Wells County, he retired in 1972 from International Harvester after 37 years. His wife, Catherine, died in 1956. Surviving are a son, Thomas L. of Liberty Center; a daughter, Sonia Shaw of Bluffton; three grandchildren; a brother, Marvin "Jack" of Auburn; and two sisters, Velma "Val" Henke and Betty VanZant, both of Auburn. He also was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Dian Durr in 1947. Services at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Thoma/Rich, Hewitt & Chaney Funeral Home, Bluffton, with calling after 9 a.m. Calling also from 2 to 9 p.m. today. Burial in Fairview Cemetery, Bluffton. Memorials to the Bluffton High School Athletic Association or the First Presbyterian Church.

Garth L. Durr, 88, of Bluffton, an avid coon hunter and sports fan, died Monday, Nov. 27, 2000, at home.
The Wells County native retired in 1972 from International Harvester Co. after 37 years of service and was a member of Loyal Order of Moose.
Surviving are a son, Thomas L. of Liberty Center; a daughter, Sonia Shaw of Bluffton; a brother, Marvin of Auburn; sisters Velma Henke and Betty VanZant, both of Auburn; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine, a daughter, Donna D., five brothers and a sister.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Thoma-Rich Hewitt & Chaney Funeral Home, Bluffton, with calling from 9 a.m. until services and also from 2 to 9 p.m. today. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery.
Memorials are to Bluffton High School Athletic Association or First Presbyterian Church.
Narrative
It should be noted that both the death announcement and the obituary for Garth as published in the Fort Wayne Journal-Gazette report his date of death as Sunday, 26 Nov 2000, but his obituary from the Fort Wayne News-Sentinel reports his death as Monday, 27 Nov 2000. I suspect Garth died overnight and there was some confusion as to the date as reported to the newspapers.
