Narrative

Note: Irene Glassley, the mystery granddaughter of William and Emma (Forst) Glassley

Living with William and Emma in the 1910 US Census, along with their youngest two children (nineteen-year-old Amos and eight-year-old Clara May) is a six-year-old Irene Glassley, denoted as a granddaughter of the household. I've not found any other records or references to Irene anywhere but this census record - and while she's old enough to be a daughter of William and Emma, the handwriting on the form is quite clear, and it gives both her parents' birthplaces as Indiana. It's possible that she's a daughter of one of their older two sons (Jesse or Firmer), though I've found no records to confirm this.

The most likely explanation, in my mind, is that she was born to their oldest son (Jesse) from his first marriage in 1898, which ended in divorce about 1908. He remarried that same year, and it's possible that a daughter from his previous marriage may not have been at home in his new household and thus went to live with her grandparents. I've found no vital dates for her, so I don't know her fate after 1910, either.
