Narrative

Note: Researching the family of Earl V. Patterson

A great deal of the information I have found for Earl's family has been from user-submitted supplemental information, notably on the FindaGrave.com website, that I have not been able to verify. The exceptions would be the obituary for one of his daughters - Norma Jean (Patterson) Thompson, who died aged twenty in early 1955, and the death record for his son George Larry Patterson, who died that same year at the age of thirteen. The listing on FindaGrave,com for his youngest son, James Robert Patterson, also includes an obituary, but i have been unable to source that information so far.

Of his children, the following is the information I have found.

- Martha Jo married Robert Gene Hawley in early 1951, according to their marriage record; she was named in her sister Norma Jean's obituary in 1955 with the surname Hawley, as well. There are two different listings on the FindaGrave.com website that are linked to the family (Martha Jo Jackson and Martha J. Trobaugh), one of which includes a birthdate that matches the one from her marriage record, while the other has only the birth year given. I am uncertain which of these two would apply to Martha Jo, as I have been unable to find confirmed information about her death or any subsequent remarriages.

- Norma Jean died at the age of twenty in Colorado in early 1955; she appears to have married young to a military service member and was living in Colorado (where her husband was stationed) at the time of her death.

- George Larry died at the age of thirteen in late 1955. His listing on the FindaGrave.com website includes a copy of his death record, indicating that he died of injuries from an accidental gunshot.

For the remaining children, Donald and Wayne are each listed (with their older sisters and their parents) in the 1940 US Census record for the household, while Nancy Jeanette (Patterson) Estes and James Robert Patterson were both born later, and I have found no confirmed records for them that link them to the family at this time.
