Narrative
[Obituary for George A. Hoeft, from the Oconomowoc Enterprise, 2 Jun 1983.]
George A. Hoeft, 61, died Wednesday, May 25, at Rogers Memorial Hospice.
Funeral services were Friday, May 27, at 8 p.m. in the Notbohm Funeral Home with Pastor James Wilch officiating. Private committal services with military rites were held Saturday in La Belle Cemetery.
Hoeft was born Oct. 5, 1921 in Oconomowoc, the son of John and Rosalie Scharz Hoeft. He was a pharmacist, a graduate of the University of New Mexico. Hoeft had been employed by Tobin Drug in Oconomowoc and Southside Pharmacy in Waukesha before retiring and moving to Eureka Springs, Ark.
He was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Waukesha, and was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He is survived by his wife, Rosalie; two stepdaughters, Beth Ann Mueller, Waukesha, and Janet (Paul) Scheets, Genesee; his mother, Rosalie S. Hoeft, Oconomowoc; his brother, Dr. Irwin (Mae) Hoeft, Oconomowoc; a step-grandson and other relatives and friends. His father, John, died in 1975.
Visitation was Friday at Notbohm Funeral Home.
Memorials to St. Mark's Lutheran Church will be appreciated.
Narrative
Note: George Hoeft
George is buried in La Belle Cemetery in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, with a Katharine C.; the Wisconsin Death Index gives her a death date of 19 Jan 1970. Unknown at this point whether they had any children, or when they were married. It is also uncertain at this point whether this is the George Hoeft that is the son of John and Rosalie Hoeft, but it seems likely given his burial in La Belle Cemetery.
ADDENDUM: George's obituary names his wife Rosalie, and mentions two step-daughters but no children of his own. There is also no mention of a Katherine, although at this point my assumption is that Katherine was his first wife, preceding him in death, and that he remarried sometime after her death in 1970. His obituary does say that he was buried in La Belle Cemetery, and the years on the headstone (with Katherine) match his birth and death years.
