Narrative

I have not yet managed to find a 1940 US Census listing for Hilda and her husband Russell, nor any further information on their children. Hilda is buried with her sister and parents in Kingery Cemetery in rural Paulding Cty, Ohio, while her husband Russell followed her in death fourteen years later and is buried in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Janesville, Rock Cty, Wisconsin.

A faculty Memorial Resolution from the University of Wisconsin in Madison nearly a year after Russell's death notes that he was preceded in death by his first wife, Hilda, and was survived by his second wife Mary Margaret, three children, and his grandchildren. This would seem to imply that his second marriage occurred after Hilda's death, and not after the two of them divorced. Of the three children, the only name I have is for their eldest, Philip, born in 1929. The other two must have been born after 1930. The family may not have had a 1940 US Census listing, as the memorial document does mention that Russell's work took him through several states in the course of his teaching career.
