Narrative

Note: Researching the family of Louise (Stargard) Brede

Son Louis is noted on the 1900 US Census as being nine years old and adopted; son Leonard first appears in the 1905 WI state census as eight years old, so he is presumably adopted as well. By 1920 the household is just Fred and Louise, and by 1930 Louise is living alone and listed as widowed. All of these census records place the family in either Columbus, Columbia Cty, Wisconsin or in Elba (on the east side of Columbus) across the county line in Dodge County, Wisconsin.

Leonard Brede is buried in Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery in Reeseville, Dodge Cty, Wisconsin, with wife Verna S. I have not yet found the graves of his brother Louis or their adoptive parents.

Leonard's WWI draft registration card (from Sep 1918) names both his employer and his nearest relative as Fred Brede of Reeseville, Dodge Cty, Wisconsin. Presumably, he and Verna were not married at that point.

The marriage record for Louise and Fred was found much later in my searches, and gives her names as Albertine C.L. Stargard. It seems readily apparent that one of her given names was Louise, as she was called that commonly, and my guess is that her other given name was Charlotte, for Augusta's mother.
