Narrative

Note: Researching Jane Mary Gromeaux and family

Jane Mary's husband, Joseph Small, appears to have been orphaned at a young age, and adopted by the Charles and Frances Gerardot family; he was listed as an adopted son in their household in the 1900 US Census in Jefferson Twp, Allen Cty, Indiana, as a thirteen-year-old boy. Also living with the Gerardot family at that time as a hired hand was Justin P. Cayot, an older first cousin of Jane Mary's and possibly involved in Jane Mary and Joseph getting to know one another at some point.

The two married in the spring of 1911, and by 1920 the two of them appear to have had four children - two daughters, Cecelia and Mary Bernetta, followed by two sons, Francis and Bernard. I have located marriage records for the two daughters, along with some limited information on their children, but have not found confirmed records for sons Francis and Bernard after 1940.
