Narrative
[Obituary for Roy Clark, from the Huntington Herald-Press, 4 Nov 1917; posted online to the FindaGrave.com website.]
Roy Clark, 16 years old, 311 Lindley Street was fatally injured yesterday shortly after the noon hour at the Erie Stone Crusher plant and died at 3 o'clock at the County Hospital where he had been rushed in an attempt to save his life.
Clark was struck by a car which is used to haul stone up a steep incline when it was returning to the quarry. According to eye witnesses Clark was in the act of crossing the track when he was struck. Some reports said that the car jumped the track and struck the boy, while others asserted he saw it coming and endeavored to cross in front of it.
A Doctor who was called to the scene of the accident summoned Stult's ambulance and the youth was taken to the hospital but
all efforts to save his life proved unavailing. The uppeer part of his body was badly crushed and it was thought he had suffered severe internal injuries.
Clark was born January 26, 1901 in Adams County, Indiana to Bert and Minerva Clark. His mother is dead, the boy and his brother Rufus had been making his home with their grandmother, Mrs. Sarah Swain, 311 Lindley Street. The father is also living.
The funeral service will be held at 9 o"clock at the residence with Rev. Elmer Ward Cole in charge. Burial will be in Tocsin.
