Narrative

[Obituary for Richard O. Miller, posted online to the FindaGrave.com website.]

Miller, Richard O., 53, Geraldine, died at his ranch home. Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at the Benton Funeral Home in Fort Benton with Rev. George Baldwin of the Community Methodist Church in Geraldine officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Fort Benton. He was born Sept. 19, 1911, at Toledo, Ohio and came to Montana as a youngster with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Miller. They homesteaded in the Eagle Butte area east of Fort Benton. Miller attended the Coyne Electrical School in Chicago. He married Edna Caley July 3, 1935, at Choteau. The couple lived in Stockett where he worked in the mines and in 1942 moved to the Eagle Butte area to farm. Survivors include the widow, his mother, Fort Benton; two sons, Richard, Great Falls; Robert, with the Navy in San Diego; two daughters, Mrs. Donna Tulberg, Havre; Dianne, Geraldine; two sisters, Mrs. Helen Trunk and Mrs. Thelma Williams, Big Sandy; three grandchildren.

Narrative

Listed in the household of Richard's grandfather, Oscar Weible, in the 1930 US Census for Bloomfield Twp, LaGrange Cty, Indiana, is an eighteen-year-old Ohio-born grandson named Richard O. Weible. I suspect this is actually Richard Oscar Miller, and that he was counted twice in the US Census that year. It seems quite possible that he was visiting, possibly for an extended period of time, to help his grandparents as they were getting older.
