Narrative
Note: The family of Agnes J. (Weible) Scherger
The entry for Agnes in the text Christian Metzger: Founder of an American Family 1682-1942 (p186) gives her birthdate, her marriage date to "John A. Schreger," and her death date, with a note stating "her babe one day old." The text also lists only one child born to her, naming him "Conn A. Schreger," and giving only his birthdate.
Agnes and John married in August of 1892 in Allen Cty, Ohio (likely in Delphos), and the couple was quite soon pregnant with twin boys, who were born in mid-May of the following year. Her sons were named for their grandfathers - Constantine Scherger and Henry Weible - though whether Agnes was party to their naming prior to her death or not does not seem to be captured in any of the information I have found thus far.
Of the two boys, Henry died just a few months later, and is buried with the bulk of his extended and immediate family in Saint John Catholic Cemetery in Delphos, Van Wert Cty, Ohio. Constantine survived, and was recorded living with his paternal grandparents (including his namesake, German-born grandfather Constantine) in the 1900 US Census. His housemates included the younger siblings of his father - his aunts and uncles, some of whom were nearly his own age and were likely his playmates as he grew up.
After Agnes' death and prior to 1900, John Scherger remarried to Mary C. Goebel (b. 18 Jul 1875, d. 14 Jul 1956); the two of them were counted together in the 1900 US Census with the first of their three children, daughter Leone Stephan. By the time of the 1910 US Census, Leone was followed by daughter Ruth Maria and son John Bernard, and by this time Constantine had joined their household. He remained with them for quite a few years, but by the time of the 1930 US Census he had taken residence with his father's sister, his unmarried aunt Eda Mary Scherger - who, being only five years older than Constantine and raised with him for years, was likely more like a sister to him than his half-siblings. The two of them appear to have lived together until Constantine's death in 1945.
John Scherger's son from his second marriage, John Bernard, died just a few days past his sixteenth birthday. Both of his daughters from that marriage appear to have married and had children, continuing his line. Constantine, his only surviving son from his first marriage (and the only surviving child of Agnes Weible), never married and had no children, ending her line with his death.
