Narrative

Note: Wanda Anna Schear and family

There are a number of gaps or incomplete portions of my research for Wanda and her family, due at least in part to her early death just a handful of months prior to her fortieth birthday.

Wanda married Pennsylvania-born John Thomas Briggs sometime prior to 1924, though I have not yet found a marriage record for the two of them yet. The two of them would divorce sometime after the birth of their youngest child, Richard Dale "Dick" Briggs, in 1934. Wanda does not appear to have remarried, as her death record from 1944 notes her marital status as "divorced." John remarried sometime prior to 1940, as he was counted in the 1940 US Census with his second wife, Daisy Ruth (Shipley) Briggs, and would two more children with her. (John fathered two sets of twins - daughter Jean and Joan with Wanda, and fraternal boy-girl twins Marlene and Merle with Daisy.)

The information I can find for Wanda's children is not entirely complete at this time; what follows is a summary of what I have found so far.

- For her oldest child, son Marion T., I have not yet found a confirmed burial location, nor any marriage record or information on his spouse. His death record gives his marital status as "married," and he enslisted in the Army during WWII. I have not discovered whether he had any children.

- Second child (and oldest daughter) Dorothy R. appears to have still been alive in 2014, as she was named as a survivor in the obituary for her younger sister Joan. I have not found any information on whether she ever married or had children.

- Third child Jack E. married to Donna Rae Horton; he passed away in 1995, while she was listed as a survivor in the same 2014 obituary mentioned above. I have not found any confirmation of children born to the Jack and Donna, though a public records search does indicate the possibility of at least two sons, and possibly four.

- Joan Mae, one of the twin girls born next, passed away in 2014. Her obituary names her Joan Bartell, though no husband is mentioned, suggesting she divorced sometime before her death. I have not found any marriage record for her, nor any information on her spouse. Her obituary names four children, several grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

- Jean Anne, the other twin girl, was named as a survivor in Joan's obituary, and named Jean Stewart. I have not found any information on her spouse, nor whether she has had any children.

- Youngest son Richard Dale, called "Dick," married in Indiana to Nancy Jean Cooper. Dick passed away in 1989, and is buried with a headstone that appears to have blank space for a spouse's name and dates, but a very recent photo shows that portion of the stone to be blank. I have no information on what happened with Nancy after Dick's death, though his death record does indicate that he was married. I have also not found any information on any children they may have had.

Finding further obituaries and other records should help clear up some of the gaps and such for Wanda's family.
