Narrative

Note: Researching Alice Maude (Laxton) Tressler and family

Alice was counted twice in the 1910 US Census - once in her parents' household in Sparta, Monroe Cty, Wisconsin, as well as in the household of her older sister Mary Elizabeth (Laxton) Hippler and family (where she was noted as a servant).

In the 1920 US Census, Alice was living in Chicago, Cook Cty, Illinois, counted as a "cousin" in the household of George Herbert Percival; George's wife was the English-born Eleanor Laxton. (I have not yet determined the exact relationship between Alice and Eleanor.)

Sometime around 1924 or 1925 - I have not yet found a marriage record - Alice married to Fred (or Frederick) John Tressler, a Canadian-born man several years her junior. I have not confirmed much information for Fred, but he appears to have been born 19 Oct 1898 (though some records appear to report his birth year as 1899 or 1900) in Manitoba, Canada, son of Austrio-Hungarian parents George Tressler and his wife Margaret (or Margareta). Fred appears to have immigrated to America in 1924 in Vermont, and must have married Alice soon after; he was naturalized in Chicago in 1928.

Alice and Fred were counted in the 1930 US Census in Chicago with their two young sons, Bernerd and Glen, and again in Franklin Park, Cook Cty, Illinois in 1940. Bernerd died in 1948, unmarried at the age of twenty-two. Alice followed just over nine years later, and according to their death records the two are interred in "Acacia Park," which I believe to be a very large cemetery in Chicago. (The FindaGrave.com website has no listed for the two of them, though I suspect this is mostly due to the number of interments there.)

I have not established whether Alice and Fred remained married until her death, though it seems likely. Sometime after 1940, Fred moved west, likely following their younger son Glen (who had married in Orange Cty, California just five months before his brother's death). At some point, Fred remarried to a woman several years younger; I have not found a state death record for Fred as of yet, though a burial listing for him on the FindaGrave.com website places him in Sunland Memorial Park in Sun City, Maricopa Cty, Arizona, with his second wife Pearl (b. 1910, d. 1997).

I have not found significant information for Glen after his 1947 marriage record, though he does appear to have remained in the vicinity of Orange Cty, California for the remainder of his years, passing away in 1999. It appears he and his wife (California-born Virginia Ann Criswell) had at least three daughters. I have not found a state death record for Glen, nor have I located a burial listing for him.
