Notes: Searching for Elizabeth DeWitt

After the 1870 US Census listing for her father's household in Pleasant View Twp, Cherokee Cty, Kansas, I have not yet found any confirmed records or other information for her. I have managed to eliminated a few possibilities, based on some of the searches I have made so far.

- A 1903 birth record from Cherokee, Crawford Cty, Kansas, for a male child, surname Millard, has the father named Perry Millard and the mother's name given as DeWitt. Further searches indicate Perry's wife was Mahala DeWitt, b. 1870.

- A 1904 birth record from Atchison, Atchison Cty, Kansas, for a female child, surname Haw, names the father Chas Haw and the mother's name as DeWitt. I have not managed to find further information to confirm or eliminate this pair as a possibility, as I have not located any records in Kansas that I can match to a Charles Haw.

- A marriage record from 1891 in Coffeyville, Montgomery Cty, Kansas, for Thomas Morgan names his parents as W.H. Morgan and E. DeWitt. Thomas birthdate is given as 1867, which would have made Elizabeth about fourteen at his birth and which was prior to the 1870 US Census record that had her in her father's household as an unmarried seventeen-year-old.

I will note that, in the obituary for her older sister Rebecca Ann (DeWitt) Smith in 1926, the only surviving sibling named is their brother, Lorenzo, suggesting that Elizabeth had died prior to 1926. A photograph found in the files of Jane Anne Thomas, dating from around 1900 or sometime shortly after, clearly depicts Rebecca and a slightly-younger woman who strongly resembles her, and which bears a photographer's stamp from Kansas; the notes on the back of this photo suggest this is Rebecca's younger sister Elizabeth, which would indicate she survived at least until about 1900.
